BRIDE TURNED AWAY FROM STORE FOR HER “ILLEGAL ACTION”

alix_genter

Oh dear, what sort of awful person does this?

I sincerely hope that the Here Comes the Bride store in Philadelphia, USA, suffers major economic retaliation for this act.

Here is a sample of the nonense Alix Genter was forced to deal with:

“She said she wouldn’t work with me because I’m gay,” you recalled. “She also said that I came from a nice Jewish family, and that it was a shame I was gay. She said, ‘There’s right, and there’s wrong. And this is wrong.’ “

WHY THE “MARRIAGE” WORD MATTERS

Why Marriage Matters

Sorry to recycle again, but this is a worthy follow up to the question, “are civil unions worse than nothing?”, by a married lesbian in limbo (Jane Rigby Silver Spring), in the Washington Post this week.

My favourite point: “Marriage matters, because marriage is how society decides whose relationships matter, and whose don’t. No matter what, gay people will fall in love and make homes together, as we always have. Marriage equality is about whether straight people are going to recognize those relationships. It’s how they decide who’s family.”

RAISE YOUR GLASSES TO PINK POWER

The singer Pink is a big supporter of gay marriage

The singer Pink is a big supporter of gay marriage

The best friend of the singer Pink is gay, and was married in the singer’s yard.  Listen to what happened next here. Listen to the song “Raise Your Glass” here.

Her new single “Raise Your Glass,” is based on the experience. The music video for the song is also based at a gay wedding.

“I threw my best friend’s wedding in my backyard — [she] is gay and she married her wife, and it was absolutely beautiful. At the end of it, her mom said, ‘Why can’t this be legal?’ and started crying. It was just the most heartbreaking thing I’ve ever seen, so that’s why I’m doing it in my video. “

CHERIL & MONICA: A LOVE STORY

Today we’re publishing a story by the playwright and author Cheril N. Clarke

I met Monica by chance in autumn 2003.  I was doing a poetry reading in New York City, and after the reading I went around to gather e-mail addresses for my mailing list. After Monica wrote down her details, I added a star – because she was attractive and I really wanted remember who she was. Monica noticed the star, and several emails later she had snagged dinner and a future wife.

I knew I wanted to spend the rest of my life with Monica after the first six months of dating. That is when I found myself in the Diamond District in mid-town Manhattan looking for rings and picking one out.
