HOMO-CIDE: MURDER IN GAY MARRIAGE

It is well known that nearly all murdered women are killed by someone they know – often their husband.  Sadly husbands in gay married couples are also capable of the act – as demonstrated by this British murder case from hometown of Queer As Folk.

Interestingly you are three times more likely in Canada to be murdered by your spouse if you are in a common-law (de facto) relationship rather than a marriage … and the spousal murder rate has been dropping since gay marriages were legalised. Not exactly positive reasons to get married or to support marriage equality, but yet another side benefit.

OUT IN AFRICA – JAILED FOR LOVE

More news on the gay couple in Malawi, who were jailed in December after they staged a public engagement ceremony in defiance of the country’s strict anti-gay laws.

After being subjected to forced anal examinations to confirm sodomy charges, ongoing detention without conviction, a humiliating public trial and illness in custody, Steven Monjeza and Tiwonge Chimbalanga have sent messages mataining their belief in marriage and gay equality to activists in London.

The couple, who face 14 years in jail for homosexuality, have been adopted by Amnesty International as prisoners of conscience.

MAXIMUM SECURITY?

Debates about marriage equality are at very different stages across the world – as this global map of marriage rights from the International Lesbian and Gay Association (ILGA) shows.

Did you know lesbians and more often gay men can be jailed for private sexual activities in more countries (78) than they can marry (10)?  That’s not the kind of maximum security we need.
